Disposable Cameras vs Smartphones at Weddings: Which Captures the Best Memories?

Disposable cameras are making a comeback at weddings — and we completely understand why.

There’s something fun about leaving a few on the tables and seeing what your guests capture.

No filters.
No deleting.
No second chances.

Just point, click and hope for the best! 😂

But it got us thinking...

When almost every wedding guest already has a great camera in their pocket, which actually captures the best memories?

We remember weddings before smartphones

When we got married in 2006, smartphones as we know them today didn’t exist.

We were also on a tight budget and didn’t have a professional photographer, so the photographs taken by our family and friends became incredibly important to us.

And we still treasure them today.

The problem?

Many ended up scattered across CDs, computers and folders.

Nearly 20 years later, most laptops don’t even have a CD drive!

If only we’d had today’s technology back then.

There’s something special about disposable cameras

We love the nostalgia.

You don’t know what your guests have captured until the photographs are developed.

Some will be brilliant.

Some will be blurry.

And somebody will probably take a photograph of absolutely nothing. 😂

But that's part of the fun.

They capture imperfect, spontaneous moments — and sometimes imperfect photographs make perfect memories.

But smartphones capture a different story

Almost everyone at your wedding will already have one.

And every person sees your wedding from a different perspective.

While you’re talking to family, your friends might be laughing together at another table.

While you’re cutting the cake, someone could be capturing your parents watching proudly from across the room.

And while you're enjoying your first dance, another guest might be filming everyone’s reactions.

These aren't necessarily the moments you knew were happening.

And that's what makes them special.

Photos, videos, laughter, reactions and all those little moments happening around you...

Put them together and you don't just have photographs of your wedding.

You have the story of your wedding.

So, what's the problem?

Taking photographs has never been easier.

Getting them all back is another matter.

Some end up on WhatsApp.

Some appear on social media.

Some disappear into group chats.

And many simply stay on your guests' phones.

Then there's always:

“I've got some great photos — I'll send them to you later.” 😅

We know from our own wedding how easily precious photographs can become scattered.

And that's something we'd definitely do differently today.

One place for everyone's memories

It's one of the reasons we created Flashback Memories.

Instead of chasing everyone after the wedding, give your guests one place to share what they've captured.

Create your gallery.
Share your QR code.
Guests scan and upload.

No app. No chasing. Just everyone's memories together.

So... disposable camera or smartphone?

We'd choose both.

If you love the nostalgic feel of disposable cameras, put some on the tables and enjoy the surprise when you get them developed.

But don't forget about the cameras already in your guests' pockets.

Because years from now, your favourite photograph might not be the perfectly posed one.

It might be slightly blurry.

Someone might not be looking at the camera.

You might not even have known it was being taken.

But when you see it...

you're right back there.

And ultimately, isn't that what a great photograph is supposed to do?

Different cameras. Different perspectives. One unforgettable day.

One QR Code. Every Memory.
